Gourgé village / Surrounding area / Activities

A museum of farming equipment and machinery, can also be visited on request. Please arrange this with the Mayor’s office. The Mayor’s office in along the main street, virtually opposite Frense House.

Village restaurant:
Le Petit Marmite (05 49 69 88 63) is in the village square, next to the church.

La Toscane (05 49 69 81 56) is another local Italian restaurant with excellent food and service. This can be found about 3 kilometres outside Gourge, on the Parthenay road. Please look out for the sign on the left hand side of the road. Drive along the lane, turning left at the end of it. Its lovely inside, but from the outside it can sometimes look closed!

Futuroscope – a giant high-tech theme park is just north of Poitiers.

Lac Du Cebron
is just north of Gourge’. The lake is formed by damming the river Cebron. This is a nature reserve, geared for water sports, fishing and the various hides around the lake enable you to watch birdlife at the lake. If you enjoy walking, it is well worth a visit.
The lake provides small sandy and rocky beaches, toilets, changing and shower room facilities and picnic areas.
A very quiet open air swimming pool, which is perfect for all ages is situated around the rear of the educational centre building.

Fishing permits can be purchased from the village shop.

The west coast boasts some of the best sandy beaches in France and La Rochelle, famous for its seafood, huge marina and daily market is well worth a visit. Its aquarium in Port des Minimes, is one of the town’s most popular attractions.
